These are the nine most common mistakes novice bloggers make, and they’re pretty easy to rectify. But you also need to know how to run the rectification process knowing what you are doing and, more importantly, why you are doing it. Many of these attributes are missing from new blogs and keeping them in mind and optimized can result in a Google rating higher than 80%, as long as your blog is professionally compiled.
1 – Blog title
The title of a site’s home page usually appears in the header, but it must also be an H1 header. And this is where your short tail keywords will serve you well. Also, your title shouldn’t exceed 60 characters, including all spaces, because that’s the maximum allowed by all the major search engines. However, it is more advisable not to exceed 55 characters, just to be safe and your site can be indexed by all the major search engines. Try to target your niche and a common need within, then make those keywords your site title baseline.
2 – H2 Header
Your blog post titles should be H2 headings and again you should target your niche and keywords. Only this time you should try applying your long tail keywords. Never use unfriendly SEO characters in any H1 or H2 header content. These are any characters you enter using the “Shift” button on your keyboard such as apostrophes, question marks, and even underscores. If you have good anchor text, it will also be great to use in the context of your H2 header.
When your SEO is done correctly through the use of plugins, each post will be an individual URL on its own. That is why it is so important not to use SEO friendly Characters. These characters will result in a low SEO score, because hostile URLs will cause your blog’s score to drop considerably.
The title of your post is not a sales pitch either, it should indicate the reference message of your post. Think about the thought you want to inspire your audience and remember, offering something useful as a solution to a problem always works!
Post Content – Now the domain and the authority of the page are other fields that need attention, and that can be boosted by publishing content that exceeds 1000 – 2000 words. This will increase your domain authority, where high-quality comments will increase your page authority. This is also why it is so important to have a spam blocking plugin installed and to always apply “All comments must be approved first” within your c-Panel settings.
When you do this manually, just click on the website provided in the comment (Open in a new window) and see if the site is really live. Next, check that the site is indexed on the major search engines. The same goes for the email used in the comment, proof and confirmation of legitimacy. If any of these are not active, remove the comment because broken links are bad for your blog’s SEO score.
And just a tip about the content of your post; Never check another page or offer on your blog, because you may want to use your high-quality post and also publish it as an article. This will make your content useful wherever it is posted and build credibility.
3 – Meta description
The meta description is like a summary of what your visitor can expect, and again you should avoid all the hostile SEO characters. The Meta Description should not exceed 160 characters, but as with the Site Title, a lower number is recommended, such as 155 characters maximum.
Throughout these steps, your Short Tail, Long Tail, and Anchor Text keywords should complete your headings and content in their entirety. You want to target a specific audience, which is the only way to reduce the bounce rate of your visitors.
Wait, what is “bounce rate”? – Bounce rate is basically a visitor who opens your blog URL, but almost immediately closes it again. You want visitors to link to your site and stay because your content inspires interest.
Someone looking for a diet product will have no interest in something like a new flat screen TV, for example, and that visitor will simply leave your site and become another bounce statistic. I can’t put enough exclamation mark on keywords, because a lot of newbies don’t do this research and it’s the most common mistake that results in a measly 3% success rate.
Generating income online as an Affiliate or Blogger is a science, not a contest and there is no final destination. Just hard work, a lot of research, and constant learning.
4 – Meta keywords
This almost surprised me, but Google no longer accepts Meta Keywords. On the contrary, the presence of meta keywords will lower your site’s SEO score. If you use meta keywords on your site, you may want to remove them and recheck your site’s SEO score.
5 – Image “Alt” attribute
This was a mistake I made too, because all images should have the required “Alt” attribute present. It’s like a phrase that best describes the image. Now to check this, simply click on your “Media” within your Blog c-Panel and open each image individually from there. Just add Alt attribute while browsing your images.
With banners, it can tend to get a bit more complicated as you need to edit the image’s HTML, but don’t panic just yet. It sounds a lot more technical than it really is. Image HTML is simply the banner code that you copy into your text widget, and is also provided by some, but not all, affiliate offers.
6 – Have a favicon
Adding a favicon to your blog will increase your Google rating from 15 to 20%, and it’s the simplest thing to do. In fact, most optimization steps are pretty basic and really easy to do. You may find that certain themes don’t offer the option to add a favicon, and that just means a little more work. All you need to do is change your theme, and I can name at least 3 themes that support adding the favicon.
You will find the themes (Redwaves by Themient, ColorMag by ThemeGrill and Spacious by ThemeGrill) to support the addition of Logo and Favicon, which are very important. Now just a few tips on your logo as an affiliate marketer. Always brand your own name and not just a particular product, because it greatly expands your options.
But what is a favicon? – Let’s use WordPress as an example. When you open the WordPress login or home page, at the top of your browser, the site title tab will show a small icon. A small blue square with the WordPress “W” symbol. It is a favicon and it is also used as an image to create an application, if you wish. All of my personal blogs have a Google rating of no less than 72%, which means it is an A grade site and gets the gold standard. Now any professional Webmaster or Blogger will tell you that any score over 70% will get ranked in record time. How to add a favicon – Just hover over “Appearance” and then click “Header” in the drop-down menu. You will now see your blog screen with a drop down menu on the left. In the settings, you should now click on “Site Identity” where you will find the option to add a site icon, which is the favicon. Preferably images around 200 x 200 pixels.

As I mentioned earlier, instead of marking your name, enter your own name in the Company Name section. Just create your favicon, download it and set it as your site icon in WordPress.
You can use the same image as your site logo, but don’t forget to add the “Alt Attribute” to your images in the image settings. The alt attribute in your images is another one of the many tactics used to improve your Google rating. But that will be a separate topic for future posts.
7 – Domain authority and page authority
Domain and Page Authority Below 20 – These two attributes combined are a bit more difficult to achieve. This is where a little more hard work is required. You can increase your domain and page authority by getting legitimate comments, beware of spam comments, which in most cases are faceless profiles. A spam comment is also in most cases a “Comment” with a generated email address and website URL that normally opens as 404 Page Error.
Domain and page authority is also reinforced by increasing the word count of all your blog posts and pages to over 1000 words. You can go up to 2000 words and increase the authority of your site.
When you have completed these few steps and the SEO Score Checker recognizes the changes?
