Children often see these wonderful toy commercials on television, but they often don’t have the money to buy them. Some of the craft toys can sometimes be made at home with common ingredients and utensils found in the kitchen. Some toys like Play Dough and Aqua Sand can be made like this, and doing it at home will save money and give your child a sense of pride in doing it themselves. If you pay attention to the commercials and do a little research, you will be surprised how many of these toy craft products can easily be made at home. Let’s take a look at how you can make Aqua Sand at home and save some money.
To make your own Aqua Sand at home, you will need to find the following supplies: clean colored sand, a baking sheet, your kitchen oven, and some scotch protector. The skillet and oven are something you already own, but it may take a bit of searching to find the ingredients. Scotch protector can be purchased at almost any thrift or grocery store, and it comes in a spray can. Used to spray clothing to make water repellent. Colored sand is something you can buy at a local craft store. While it may seem like buying these supplies is more expensive than just buying the toy from the store, you can earn a lot more for less money if you make it yourself.
This is the procedure that you will use to make your Aqua Sand once you have all the equipment and materials gathered in your kitchen. Go ahead and spread some colored dry sand on the baking sheet, how much you use depends on how much you want to make. Spread the sand nicely and evenly across the pan and let it bake for at least an hour at a temperature of two hundred and fifty degrees. All you are trying to do here is dry the sand completely before continuing. You can alter the time and temperature in the oven depending on the amount of sand you are working with.
Once the sand is completely dry take it out of the oven to cool. Once it is cool to the touch, you should spray it with the scotch protector. Now mix the sand and spread it out on the baking sheet and spray it again with the scotch protector. Go ahead and do it with mixing and spraying one last time. Let the sprayed sand dry completely for a few hours. If you don’t want to spray the scotch liner on your pretty baking sheet, you can always put the sand on the newspaper and sprinkle it there.
Once the baked and dry sand has been sprinkled, let it sit overnight to dry thoroughly. This sand is now hydrophobic and will behave exactly like Aqua Sand, ready for you to make amazing underwater arts and crafts creations.
